“We went from a 1.4% dispute rate to 0.3% in six weeks. Stripe stopped flagging our account and released our rolling reserve in full.”
Dana WhitfieldCOO, Northloop Supply“Chargefend caught a friendly-fraud wave during Black Friday that would have pushed us straight into VAMP. It auto-refunded 212 orders while we slept.”
Marcus OyelaranFounder, Audioshelf“Setup genuinely took two minutes. The first alert came in the same afternoon — a $412 dispute we'd never have seen until it was already a chargeback.”
Priya RamnathHead of Payments, ReachrA single chargeback costs $15–$100 in fees before you even count the lost product and the hit to your ratio. Every plan pays for itself with the first dispute it kills.

Chargebacks are opaque by design. Here is how the prevention layer actually works — the full dispute lifecycle, the network programs, the pricing math and the company behind it. No fine print.
Still have questions? Talk to usThe moment a cardholder disputes a charge with their bank, the issuing bank publishes it to Ethoca (Mastercard) or Verifi (Visa) — the card networks' pre-dispute rails. Chargefend is plugged directly into both, so the alert reaches your dashboard in seconds, typically 24–72 hours before your payment processor is even notified. Inside that window we match the alert to the original transaction in your gateway, refund it — automatically or after your one-click approval — and confirm the resolution back to the issuing bank. The case is closed at the bank as resolved and never posts as a chargeback against your merchant account or your dispute ratio.
Six movements, most completed in under a minute. One: the cardholder calls their bank or taps “dispute” in their banking app. Two: the issuing bank publishes a pre-dispute alert to Ethoca or Verifi. Three: Chargefend ingests the alert in real time and fingerprints it — amount, card BIN, timestamp, billing descriptor. Four: we match it against the transactions in your connected gateway. Five: your auto-refund rules decide — refund instantly, or hold the case for manual review in your queue. Six: the resolution is reported back through the network and the dispute is withdrawn before it ever becomes a chargeback. Every step is timestamped and visible in the case timeline, so you can audit exactly what happened and when.
Ethoca is Mastercard's alerting network (it also carries many Visa issuers). CDRN — the Cardholder Dispute Resolution Network — is Verifi's Visa program where each case is routed to you to resolve within a deadline. RDR — Rapid Dispute Resolution — is Verifi's automated rail: you define decisioning rules up front (amount caps, merchant descriptors, currencies) and Visa resolves matching disputes at the issuer in seconds, with no human in the loop. Chargefend enrolls you in all three and routes every dispute through whichever rail resolves it fastest, so your coverage isn't limited to one card brand or one program.
Both families of reason codes are covered. Fraud disputes (Visa 10.4, Mastercard 4837 — “I don't recognize this charge”) and consumer disputes (Visa 13.x, Mastercard 4853 — product not received, not as described, subscription canceled). The fraud codes are the ones that hurt most, because they feed directly into Visa's VAMP fraud ratio — and they are also where alerts are most effective: the bank has already sided with the cardholder, so resolving fast is nearly always cheaper than losing the chargeback plus fees weeks later.
Almost never. A chargeback costs the refund amount plus $15–$100 in processor and network fees, plus a permanent hit to your dispute ratio — which is what triggers rolling reserves, monitoring programs and account shutdowns. An intercepted alert costs only the refund. You also keep full control: auto-refund rules let you set amount caps, product exclusions and customer blocklists, and anything outside your rules waits for one-click manual review instead of being actioned automatically.
Unmatched alerts are never auto-actioned. They land in your review queue with every data point the network sent us — card BIN and last four digits, amount, currency, transaction date and billing descriptor — so you can locate the order manually or dismiss the case. You are only ever charged for alerts that Chargefend successfully matches and resolves; unmatched and duplicate alerts are free.
Yes — prevention and representment are complementary, not mutually exclusive. You can flag segments where you'd rather fight than refund: high-ticket orders, orders with tracked proof of delivery, or repeat-disputer customers. Those cases skip auto-refund, proceed as normal chargebacks, and Chargefend hands you the full alert dossier — issuer, reason code, network timestamps — which makes your representment evidence stronger, not weaker.
Plans are flat and usage-based: Launch is $99/month with 10 resolved alerts included ($30 per additional alert), Scale is $299/month with 50 included ($22 per additional). You are only billed for alerts we successfully match and resolve — unmatched alerts, duplicates and dismissed cases cost nothing. There are no setup fees, no network enrollment fees and no percentage-of-revenue pricing: a $20 dispute and a $2,000 dispute cost you the same flat alert fee.
They are Visa's and Mastercard's dispute-monitoring programs. VAMP (Visa Acquirer Monitoring Program) combines your fraud and non-fraud dispute counts into a single ratio — cross the threshold (as low as 0.9% of transactions) and your acquirer faces escalating per-dispute fines that are passed straight to you, along with forced remediation plans. MDMP (Mastercard's Dispute Monitoring Program) works similarly with monthly chargeback counts and basis-point thresholds. Persistent breaches end with your merchant account terminated and your business listed on MATCH, which makes getting a new processor extremely difficult. Chargefend tracks your ratio in real time, projects where you'll land at month-end, and keeps you out of both programs by resolving disputes before they count.
Yes. Plans are month-to-month with no setup fees and no long-term contracts. If you cancel, your network enrollments are wound down cleanly — alerts keep being honored until the enrollment lapses so you're never exposed mid-transition — and any unused alert credits are refunded pro rata.
Chargefend is operated by J. N. S. COMERCIO & PRESTACAO DE SERVICOS LTDA, a Brazilian limited company registered under CNPJ 53.076.754/0001-91 and an official partner on the Ethoca (Mastercard) and Verifi (Visa) networks. The legal entity and registration number are published in the footer of every page, and the CNPJ is publicly verifiable on the Receita Federal website — we believe a company asking for access to your payment stack should be easy to verify, not hidden behind a brand name.
We connect through your gateway's official APIs with read and refund scopes only — we can never move funds out, change payout accounts or edit your catalog. Full card numbers never touch our servers: network alerts carry only the BIN and last four digits, and transaction matching runs on tokenized data. Everything is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256), access is logged and role-based, and we operate in line with LGPD and GDPR data-protection requirements.
About two minutes, and no. You connect your payment processor through a one-click OAuth integration — Shopify Payments, Stripe, Braintree, Chargebee, Recurly, Airwallex and 30+ more — and enrollment in the card network programs starts immediately. Chargefend sits entirely on the network and gateway side: no code, no SDK, no checkout scripts, zero added latency, and nothing changes for your customers.

A refund doesn't always prevent a chargeback. If the cardholder disputes first, you can refund the order and still take the hit.
